Schedule

How teams, rounds and dates turn into a schedule — and how it can be changed afterwards.

Where the schedule comes from

A schedule is not entered fixture by fixture, it is generated. It needs at least two teams; until those exist, the page points at the teams.

The inputs live under League settings → Schedule:

FieldMeaning
First match dayThe date of the first evening. Its weekday holds for the whole season
IntervalWeekly, every two, three or four weeks
Excluded datesHolidays and closures — the series moves on by one interval
RoundsHow often every team meets every other one; taken from the league settings
First laneFixtures are given lane pairs from here: 1 means 1/2, then 3/4, then 5/6
Rotate lanesEvery match day moves the fixtures on by one pair

Every round is a full round robin: with six teams that is five match days per round, with eight teams seven. With an odd number of teams exactly one team has a bye on every match day, and a different one each time.

The preview shows the finished schedule before anything is saved: match days, fixtures, lanes, the last date and every excluded day the series had to step over. Only Save schedule creates match days and fixtures.

An existing schedule is replaced completely — as long as nothing has been bowled. As soon as a fixture carries line-ups or results, the schedule is no longer overwritten; single fixtures are then changed in the editor.

Changing the schedule

In the schedule editor:

  • Swap two teams. Click two teams of the same match day — the bye counts as one. The swap applies to this match day only; if the return leg should match it, swap there as well. A match day that has been bowled stays as it is.
  • Set a lane. Per fixture. If two fixtures stand on the same lane pair, the editor says so and refuses to save.
  • Move a date. Either the whole match day or a single fixture. A fixture moved on its own stays part of its match day: it still counts there, and the table says that something is outstanding rather than looking finished.

What everybody sees

The Schedule page shows every match day with its date, start time, fixtures and lanes; it filters by period — all, upcoming, played — and by team. Moved fixtures are marked as such.

Subscribing to the calendar

Every team has a calendar file of its own. Through Subscribe to calendar on the schedule page:

In Google Calendar opens Google's "From URL" field and puts the link on the clipboard at the same time — over there it only needs pasting. There is no link that creates the subscription in Google with a single click: Google fetches such calendars over port 80, and the delivery server does not answer there.

The calendar stays current even when a fixture is moved — the entry travels rather than duplicating itself. A final score appears in the entry as soon as the fixture is confirmed.

The link is public. Whoever has it sees the team names, dates, lanes and final scores of this league — without an account and without an invitation. No people and no e-mail addresses are in it. A link cannot be withdrawn: once passed on, it stays valid.

Google fetches other people's calendars on its own schedule, often only every eight to twenty-four hours. A moved fixture therefore shows up in Apple calendars sooner than in Google ones.

If a calendar lags behind, Regenerate calendars in the league settings writes every file once more. The subscription links stay the same.
